Meet Luke sorrell
Marriage & Family Therapist Intern
Luke considers it an honor to join clients wherever they find themselves in their life journey. Known for his fun, warm, and attuned presence, Luke strives to create a therapeutic environment where clients can feel safe enough to show up fully as they are and access the characteristics for healing that he believes are already within them.
Drawing from attachment theory, family systems perspectives, experiential and somatic work, and expressive and play therapy modalities, Luke tailors his approach to each person’s needs. He believes that our wounds and struggles often arise from being harmed or let down in relationships, including the relationship we have with ourselves. Because of this, he further believes healing happens best in the healthy, secure, and safe re-experiencing of relationships.
Luke’s clinical interests include working with children, individuals, couples, and families navigating complex trauma and grief, sexuality and identity exploration, emotional dysregulation, neurodivergence, and faith or spiritual concerns. His work with clients is marked by flexibility and creativity–that is, he seeks to include fun and ease while also navigating the hard, sensitive, and uncomfortable aspects of life.
He is particularly passionate about joining families, parents, individuals, couples, and leaders as they or someone they love navigate experiences of faith and LGBTQ+ sexuality. “Providing a non-judgmental and non-coercive environment, it is deeply rewarding for me to witness and hold others regardless of what their understanding and integration of these beautifully complex facets of life look like. Whether there is overlap with this in your story or not, you are welcome with me,” says Luke.
Outside of his professional and academic responsibilities, Luke finds restoration in spending time outdoors, reading and writing, attending local symphony performances, and adventuring with his dog, Bexter.
